Calvary Baptist Church

Why are we here

We are proud of our heritage and our foundation. Our mission, purpose and doctrine are firmly rooted in the Scriptures. Please take some time to read through our reasons for being here and what we believe.

Our Mission

The goal of Calvary Baptist Church is to carry out the Great Commission of Christ: evangelizing the lost of our community, baptizing them as a demonstration of their faith, learning together the truth of God's Word, and living out His love for one another.

EDIFICATION: We want our lighthouse, our church and the people in it, to be built in the firm foundation of the Rock, Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:19-22). This means that we must build each other up, each using our own gifts so that we can together fulfill God's purpose for our church.

ENCOURAGEMENT: Being a place of shelter for the spiritually poor and needy, we want to be a haven of safety for every person willing to come in from the storms of life. We want to both hurt with those who are hurting, and rejoice with those who are rejoicing (I Corinthians 12:26)

Our Purpose

We believe God has set us here as "The Lighthouse On The Hill", being called to:

EVANGELISM: We are to be "the light of the world" (Matthew 5:14), shining out the truth into a dark, sinful world. We preach Christ: the sinless Son who died in our place, was buried, and rose again, to offer everyone who trusts in Him abundant and eternal life.

EXALTATION: Our ultimate purpose is to Glorify God, through our actions and through our Worship. That means our light points to Him, not us. Our goal is to make times together in singing, studying, and sharing when we "offer the sacrifice of praise to God" (Hebrews 13:15).

Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.
- Ephesians 2:19-22
