Fred W. McCloskey, Jr
Senior Pastor

Pastor Fred W. McCloskey, Jr., trusted Christ as his Savior at age 10, and shortly thereafter sensed the call of God into pastoral ministry. During his teen and
young adult years, however, he suppressed that call and tried to head down a different path.
After receiving his degree in Economics and Business Administration, with a second major in Sociology, he served as an executive with the Boy Scouts of America.
Through a series of events God made it apparent to him that he was running from God, and so he began to seek God's will.
The next step in his walk involved taking a fifty percent pay cut and accepting a job teaching at a Christian School. During his three years there, Fred
was discipled by the Pastor and some elders from the church, and sensed a renewal of his call to ministry. It was also during this time that he married his wife, Robin.
In 1981 Fred entered Biblical Seminary in Hatfield, PA, where he spent the next four years earning his Master of Arts in Biblical Studies and Master of Divinity
degrees. He graduated with high honors in 1985.
On January 1, 1986, Pastor Fred began his ministry here at Calvary. During his time here he has also served on the Board of Child Evangelism Outreach and the
Board of the Mid-Atlantic Conservative Baptist Association for a number of years. He has also been a speaker at Kade Nursing Home, Washington City Mission, and KINGS Camp.
Pastor Fred recently received his Doctor of Ministry Degree from Trinity Theological Seminary in Newburgh, Indiana.
Pastor Fred and Robin have five children: Matthew (and wife, Chrissy), Bethany, Joel, Nathan and Micah, and have been foster parents to numerous children. He
enjoys many types of music, and has been a soccer coach for numerous years for local and homeschool teams.

“IN TOUGH TIMES…”
We cling to God’s promise: II Corinthians 12:9: “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.”
I came home from our grief group the other night, and was sharing the highlights of yet another meaningful session,
when my wife remarked that maybe I needed to apply some of the principles a little better myself. Point well taken.
So here are two overriding principles to remember in tough times:
First, God’s Sovereign Purposes. God has a plan a purpose for allowing suffering and trials in our lives. We cannot see them, but He truly is in control.
Because of that our crises are limited, there is meaning to our problems, and we are assured of his presence, concern and power.
Second, God’s Sufficient Grace. If God is carrying out His plan in our lives, is watching and cares about the outcome, then He, as stated above, will also give the grace, strength, wisdom and courage we need to face such struggles. It was true for Paul, and it’s true for each one of us.
Together on the journey…
-- Pastor Fred
